As with any substantial undertaking good research pays dividends. The key factors you need to consider before recruiting an apprentice are listed below:
All apprentices are treated in the same way as other employees in your organisation. They are subject to all normal disciplinary procedures (including dismissal).
You must pay at least the apprenticeship minimum wage. This is currently set at £3.50 per hour. This rate applies to apprentices aged 16 to 18 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
The normal holiday rules apply i.e. you must at least give the national minimum, which for most workers will equate to 28 days' paid annual leave per year.
Contract of Employment
All apprentices are, as with other workers, entitled to a contract of employment setting out their conditions of employment.
